Funded childcare at Little Learners, explained plainly
Most families use more than one of these at different ages. Here’s the full picture, in one place, for all four of our nurseries.
How funded hours actually work
Funded hours come from central and local government, not from Little Learners directly, so eligibility and hours depend on your child’s age and your circumstances rather than which of our nurseries you choose. These are the rules in England.
- Every 3 and 4 year old can have 15 funded hours a week, over 38 weeks of the year, from the term after they turn 3. You don’t need to apply. We claim it for you.
- Working parents can get 30 funded hours a week from when their child is 9 months old until they start school. Each parent needs to earn at least the equivalent of 16 hours a week at the minimum wage, and neither can earn over £100,000 a year. How 30 hours works
- 2 year olds can get 15 funded hours a week if the family gets certain benefits or support. In Enfield this is called Terrific Two’s. Who can get it
- The Early Years Pupil Premium is extra money paid to the nursery for children whose families get certain benefits. It doesn’t change your hours. Who can get it
- Tax-Free Childcare adds £2 for every £8 you pay towards childcare, for children up to 11, and can pay for hours your funding doesn’t cover. How it works
Apart from the 15 hours for 3 and 4 year olds, you apply to the government or your council first. Then bring your code or confirmation to your preferred Little Learners nursery and we’ll verify it and talk you through what it covers. If you’re not sure what you can get, the government’s childcare calculator will tell you.
